How We Compare

What We’re Actually Competing With

Six honest frames, and one difference that is not a matter of degree. Everything here is shipped today — nothing on this page is a roadmap item.

The Comparisons

QuickBooks & Xero

Keep it. We are the layer it was never going to be.

You do not have to leave it to get what it cannot do. Connect it, and the monthly packs, covenant certificates, diligence package, audit evidence and readiness score run on top of it, with QuickBooks still the place money moves from. When you have outgrown it entirely — entities in separate files, revenue in a workbook, a close nobody can verify — the whole system is already underneath, and the switch is one recorded decision rather than a project.

NetSuite & Intacct

Mid-market capability without the implementation, the consultants, or the price.

The capability gap is smaller than the price gap. What you are largely paying for is configurability you will use a fraction of, and the nine months it takes to configure it.

Close & controls add-ons

A layer that reads the ledger — and can be the ledger.

A close tool bolted onto an accounting system has to ask that system for a summary, and can only ever report what it is told. Here the checks read journal lines, imported from your system or posted here, so an item cannot be complete while the condition behind it is false. And when you want the checks and the books in one place, the ledger is already underneath.

Reporting & dashboard add-ons

A dashboard reads a summary. This reads the ledger.

A reporting tool on top of an accounting system receives an export and charts it. It cannot open a number, cannot say which figures were prepared where, and cannot seal what it sent. Here every figure drills to the entry behind it, every package says which system each number came from, every issued pack is registered with a seal, and every delivered copy is re-checked nightly against the books.

AI bookkeeping tools

The question is not whether there is AI. It is what the AI is standing on.

Anyone can put a model on top of accounting data. Ours reads a document and proposes a bill, which lands unposted for a person to approve — the same gate a hand-keyed one goes through, on books that cannot be silently edited afterwards by us, by you, or by the model. What an AI tool is worth depends entirely on what happens when it is wrong.

Spreadsheets and a file share

Your revenue schedule should not live in a workbook named FINAL_v7.

The spreadsheet is not the problem; it is the symptom. It exists because the system underneath models the invoice and not the obligation, so the schedule had to go somewhere.

You Can Have This Without Switching

  • You can keep your current accounting system as the system of record. Switch that on for a company and Automate Accounting imports, reports, closes and packages on top of it, and declines to move money in a book it does not own, so a bill is never paid twice.

  • A package states which of its figures came from your other system and which were prepared here, so a reader never has to guess where a number was born.

Every frame above assumes a choice between systems. Most of the time there is not one to make: connect or import the books you keep elsewhere, and the packs, certificates, diligence package and audit evidence run on top of them, with each figure labelled by where it came from. The comparison with your current system only has to be made when you want to make it.

What Is Actually Different

Most of the differences above are matters of degree — more of this, less of that, cheaper or dearer. One is not:

  • History is never overwritten. Every record is sealed to the one before it, and a correction is a new entry that reverses the old one, so the original stays in the books.

  • The system itself refuses an unbalanced entry before it can be saved. The rule is built into the foundation, not into a screen that can be bypassed.

  • Every company's records are kept separate at the foundation of the system, across 200+ kinds of record, not by a filter the software has to remember to apply.

  • Every pack you issue is recorded with a unique seal, so you can say exactly what you sent, when, and prove it has not changed since.

These are properties of the foundation rather than features on top of it, which is why they are hard to add later. A system that let history be edited for ten years cannot decide in one release that history will never be overwritten again.

This page is deliberately about today

Nothing here is a roadmap item. A comparison table is read as a statement of what you get now, so a forward-looking claim in one is misleading however it is labelled — and the site’s own tooling refuses to render one on this page for exactly that reason.

What is coming is on the roadmap, labelled, with no dates.

The comparison that settles it is your own month closed in both. That is what running a month in parallel is for.
